Teaching Geosciences @ CSU

Classes

Earth Resources and Sustainability (Formerly Geology of Natural Resources)

  • Plate teconics, Earth Materials
  • Igneous, Metamorphic, and Sedimentary Rocks
  • Earth Process and Cycles: Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Rock Cycle
  • Earth Resources: Water, Minerals, Energy

Data Visualizations in the Geosciences

Subsurface Geologic Reservoirs

  • Subsurface pressure, temperature, and fluids including gradients, density and viscosity of fluids as a function of P, T. Pressure data to understand compartmentalization
  • Reservoir properties and controls on spatial distribution and heterogeneity: porosity, permeability, saturation, NTG, relative permeability, capillary pressure
  • The petroleum system with focus on capillary trapping, reservoir volumes, faults as seals vs conduits, and source rock maturation
  • Seismic reflectivity, well logs (fundamentals, but haven't been able to go into depth)
  • Guest lectures on geothermal, geothermal and lithium brines

Reservoir Modeling: Fundmentals of modeling statitics and dynamic reservoir properties.

Example project where students work with an outcrop to interpret and characterize the heterogeneity that they think will impact fluid flow and then test their models
